The Tannery Visitor Centre in Sauðárkrókur is in Iceland’s only working tannery. At the Centre, visitors have access to the tannery, and its leather products, in an unusually direct manner. The Tannery does not offer a conventional presentation, but a guided tour of the tannery itself. Visitors can observe the entire tanning process from start to finish, and see for themselves how fishskin is processed to make high-quality leather for use in design, crafts and manufacturing.
On sale at the Tannery Visitor Centre are leather goods from a variety of designers and craftspeople, all the products and craft goods are made from leather produced in this tannery. You can also buy leather and skins direct from the tannery, for instance fishleather, decorative longhair lambskins, aleather, etc.
